Fiddlesteppers - April 2025
A little history
In 1960 Fiddlesteppers started a class to teach Square and Round Dancing. Dan Hanshurst was the Instructor.
Fiddlesteppers was sponsored by the United Christian Young Adult Department of the Denver Area Council of Churches.
Upon graduation, the first class formed a club and wrote a Constitutions for the Fiddlesteppers [graduate group] and Fiddlesteppers [the novice/intermediate group]. Membership would be unmarried adults aged 21-35
By October, 1960 one hundred singles were meeting every Tuesday night.
Within 2 years, 3 callers were under contract.
One said, "We have great interest in our two hall - two caller system of progressive instruction, a method of making best use of our callers and facilities and maintaining group interest."
As the numbers continued to grow,
a beginner class, the Fiddlerstumblers, was added.
To qualify for club membership and a badge, singles needed approval of a club caller and
verification of an advanced member that dancer had achieved the expected dancing levels.
One person wrote, "I will always treasure my Fiddlestepper badge as a reminder of the many wonderful people
and the truly enjoyable experiences I have had.
The Fiddlesteppers largest membership list contained 450 names.
Many marriages, life long friendships, and
unforgettable memories have Fiddlesteppers connection.
All past Fiddlesteppers are invited even if they no longer dance.
Please come to socialize and enjoy refreshments.
$7.00 for dancers. Free for non-dancers Fiddlesteppers
